I live in a little town over an hour north of Sacramento. Whenever people see that I am from California, they think of Hollywood. Maybe it's not so weird since the governor is an actor! And not just people from other countries, either, people from my own state will ask me if I saw something which is located at a specific place in Southern California recently. It goes to show how we often forget how really varied countries and states can be within their borders, both culturally and geographically.
What misperceptions do you get about the state you live in?
We have same story here .I live in Maharashtra and Mumbai is city of bollywood .People from other countries i meet on internet ask me if i have seen shahrukh khan.lol
I visit Mumbai often but never got chance to see him. _________________ London bridge is falling down.
Well, I live in New Hampshire. Up here, especially in the northern part of the state, w are considered hics, rednecks and such, though they are titles I wear proudly, it doesn't nessesarily mean what the rest of the world thinks. We like the way we live and see no reason to change for anyone. We aren't ignorant or uneducated, nor are we uncivilized "shoot-em-up" savages, in fact, there is actually very little violent crime up this way, despite the fact that many people regularly open or conceal carry.
We don't all live in cabins, we don't all live off the land (though many of us easily could if we had to) we don't all beat our wives and drink beer daily, we don't all drive pick ups, we don't all farm. We aren't all loggers either. though many of us do travel regularly by snow machine in the winter, we DO in fact have a summer up here (short as it is) and yes, you can in fact "get there from here".
I live in California. I am in San Diego County, but the actual city of San Diego is about a 30 or 40 minute drive from me. I actually haven't heard many misconceptions for a while (maybe it's because a lot of the people I talk to nowadays have either lived in California for a while or used to live in California for a bit). However, I do remember when I was younger, when somebody heard I was from California, they either started talking like the stereotypical valleygirl that you saw in the movies of around the 1980s or asked if I was a valleygirl because I was born and raised in California. That was one thing that bugged me because the stereotypical valleygirl was portrayed to be an airhead that said words such as totally and like about every other word. Sure, I do occasionally use those words, but not as much as the valleygirl and I actually couldn't stand the association. Then again, that might be because I'm somewhat of a nerd. One thing I have gotten a few times about being from California is that some people assume that if you've lived in California long enough, you're friends with a bunch of people in the entertainment industry. I do happen to have some friends in the entertainment industry, but not everybody in California does.

Well the perception of people at your place was good compared to my place. my town is popular because they said there are lots of salvage victims that was found here because the place was not fully developed so there are lots of vacant lots there. Every month, there are also rape victims that are found everywhere in the place. Gangs and drug addicts are also around so it is really scary to be live in my town but I don't know why we spent almost 20 years there. When people knew where I lived they asked me if im not afraid and do i know some of the victims that was found there. _________________ my first baby..
I am from Tennessee and the misconception that I have heard the most is that we are uneducated. That is so far from the truth. I have actually traveled a lot and people have told me that I don't "fit" the profile...lol..I'm just like everyone else though. Now don't get me wrong when I say that. There are uneducated people in any state.
i am not in the states . i am inpakistan but about when you said that people think that you are from california . and about teh governor. so in california people say that everyone there is an actor because thats the capital of the industry. so i wonder everyyear how many peoples' dreams are being broken . _________________ We are medicine of each other.
I currently live in South Carolina, but I've always lived in "the south". People often think that makes me stupid and uneducated, especially when they hear me talk because I do have a little bit of a southern accent. Well, I'm not uneducated. As a matter of fact, I graduated from high school with an advanced diploma, got really good scores on my SATs, and currently attend college so I can get a good job once I get my degree. I do have my redneck traits and "southern raisin'", but I'm not stupid lol... _________________ ~College Girl~
