If you had the means to improve one thing in your home, what would it be? I want to do several things to my house but the one thing I would like to do is to redo my bathroom. I would like a bigger one. A much bigger one. Eventually I would also like to finish the basement and make it into another living area. What about you?

We live in a really old cottage and it needs a few things improving.
It used to be what as called a but and ben when it was first built in 1851 but over the last 150 years has had a few things done including an upper floor added.
But we need a new bathromm, badly.
We put in a temporary measure bathroom between the stairs and the kitchen 12 years ago and we are still using it.
Its less than 6 feet wide.
And its not much longer but we have a toilet, a sink and a bath with a shower all crammed in to the space.
Maybe the man with the plan will read this post and take note.

I have been hinting for the last decade and its not done me any good.
I know Jim is really busy with other things and I know its a job he would do himself instead of paying someone so I might have to wait a while yet.
I would bet you get yours before I get mine.
I think I can wait till summertime because I dont really fancy the upheaval just now as its far to cold and it needs a new floor as well so its a major job.

I know what it's like to be busy and cold..lol..we just had a bunch of snow here and it's freezing outside. I would love to be able to do stuff like that myself and save a ton of money but even if I were a handy gal, I wouldn't have the time with my hours at work I'll have to have walls knocked out for mine. I may not get mine before yours Very Happy

Jim read this post and he said you will get yours before we get ours as he thinks the foundations might need some work as well and a wall taken down and put back up.
He says if we leave it as it is he will refurbish it and re-decorate and I can choose a new bathroom suite.
I think I might have to settle for that.
But if you saw our bathroom you would advise me to take a quick makeover of it and grab it with both hands.
So I will- but its going to wait until the summer.
The snow has been falling for the last 3 days and there is no way any major work is getting done in this house whilst its so cold.
Snow lying since the 19th of December although it did melt for 10 days.

Well..it's amazing what a freshening up can do. I done the paint and such last year. I love baths and when I was kicked back in the tub, I looked around and asked myself "why the He!! did I buy this house?"...lol..I went to the hardware store after that and got paint and flooring. I feel better about it now but it's just so small. I've got more snow here than we've had in a long time. I'm waiting to have my roof replaced right now and it will be a good two weeks before the weather allows it.

I wouldnt relish having to replace our roof any time soon. Now thats a job which would have to wait until the height of summer here but even then its a risk. Last summer we had downpour after downpour and it would have been no no! doing a new roof then.
Bathrooms, ours will get a major makeover as it does need it, and soon, I promise.

Well..the a few shingles actually got blown off of during some very strong winds that we had. I was lucky enough to have my insurance claim honored and they are going to replace the whole thing. It would have had to be done in the next three or four years anyway. I'm going with the lifetime metal roof. No fancy colors..just charcoal grey. I think it will raise the equity in my house too. It may be a while before I can get it done though if the weather doesn't let up. It is more of a summer project.
