my big brother once installed and have both windows XP and linux in this CPU, but I didn't like the way it runs, the speed had decreased significantly, i dont know how he config it. but i tell him to put it back to normal, and just use one OS windows xp instead.

He didnt install it right then, there should be no loss of performance at all.
I installed mine so I could only use one or other from the start up screen by choosing O/S and partitoning the hard drive. Both XP and Ubuntu run just as well as XP did before, and Ubuntu seems to use less resources.

You should see what the other version of Linux I have can do, only thing is, after I got the demo from the Geek, I never went near that side of it again. It is good though. One day I will learn about it fully. Windows 7 looks like Vista ok, I think I might end up going back to XP. I like it best of all, I think,

What exactly can Linux do that Windows cannot? Can you give examples? I understand their are different versions (called distros I think) such as redhat and ubuntu. Which is the best for you?

Why you would go back to XP is beyond me. Sure it's good but it's a backwards step and soon software won't be supported in XP. Vista is a really good OS and more stable for me than XP was. I use Vista 64 with Service Pack 1 so I consider Vista much faster than my 32bit XP ever was.

I really forgot if it was having performance problem or not, all i know when I log on to my PC, i do not want to see any bothering interuption like you were given options wether to choose linux or windows. if i was not wrong, there was options. if there was not, i would probably not having any problems with it at all. he installed it on his laptop though. win to win solution Very Happy

let's see Multiple desktops, WOBBLY WINDOWS I MISS You, and an apt-get

Multiple desktops -- at the bottom right hand corner, you could be talking with instant messengers in one, working on a paper in another, researching the web in another. Definitly aids multi-tasking!

Wobbly windows -- Makes the windows wobble when you move them

they have an add-remove programs, and you can search for whatever you want! =D as long as it's open source you can just add everything right there. You can even use apt-get in the terminal to install other programs as well, all automated. As long as you know the command. So you could install eclipse and java at the same time.

I bot my wife a new Laptop yesterday. It has one quite weird feature. It has a thing called Express Gate on it which is a watered down version of Linux Lite embedded in the motherboard. Its quite cool, and boots up in less than 4 seconds from cold. Its an ASUS Laptop

hmm, Might be Asus's way of trying to get linux into mainstream. Laughing trying to get consumers to have a little taste of linux. Smile I would completly switch over if it wasn't for the fact that my video card is unsupported... Tried nearly everything... ati radeon xpress 200m. Not supported list =[
I was able to get it to play Guild Wars, but I only got like 2 frames per second. lol....

Well, what ever they are thinking its a great idea, but ASUS have moved to far towards Windows for my liking. I quite like my other notebook which is ASUS and totally Linux.
Now, quote key, you dont have to use it when quoting the poster who posted last if you are spoeaking to them, like you didnt have to quote my last input. I used to get confused by it all the time, lol

Yeah i am using dual boot operating system Windows xp with Linux and i will suggest you if you want linux and xp together then first install xp than linux because if you install xp later than linux then xp's boot loader will overwrite the boot loader of linux and linux will not workk. If you install Linux later then linux boot loader will make entry for xp so your dual boot will work properly.

No, because I have a pathetic PC memory. It's got a 512 MB and it's freezing on me because I am a power user. So adding another OS on the other partition would make it suffer even more. I was thinking of installing a UNIX/Linux OS on one partition, but I guess I have to upgrade both my HDD and memory.
