I've actually only been to a couple of little art shows in my area. I would love to go to a big art show and see the exhibits. I love art and have a great passion for painting. Funny I just started doing it a couple of years ago. I have always liked art though. So have you been to any art show? Art museums?
I used to go to all the art shows by the starving artists in my area. I found a lot of beautiful art work for very affordable prices. Unfortunately its been a couple of years since I've seen any of these shows advertised. I have been to our local art museum but find that the paintings and artifacts don't seem to change very much so it becomes boring.
So, what kind of pictures do you paint, Jen? Landscapes, portraits, abstracts or all of the above. I really envy anyone who has a talent for painting, its a wonderful ability. About the only painting I have ever done is paint by number , although if you need your house painted I'm really good at that.
I have been to big exhibitions, I have been to small ones, I have been to see street artists - London is just a mix of so many different cultures and beautiful things. Here in the DR there are mostly poor artists that do paintings for the tourists, which I don't particularly like as it really isn't their style, just something that they think the tourists will buy. Of course the majority of artists are Haitian and it is actually Haitian art that is being sold in the Dominican Republic, quite ironic actually.
We bought a painting, paid well over the odds for it and of course the artists saw none of it. But we did our little bit for the local industry. However, it is also a one-off peice of work. We wish we could find the artist but we never will because we would love to commission another one. It is a 3-D painting of stylised fish, quite unique. We have found other similar paintings but not in 3-D - bits of cloth hanging off but giving good texture.
As oceanblueeyes says, you can get some really good pieces at a decent price, not some of these ridiculous prices. When I went to Australia I bought some aboriginal art and love it but the prices were already going sky high and of course it isn't the artist who is seeing this money! _________________ Early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!

I never been to art show but the building besides my office always have an art exhibit. I usually go to the exhibit when i heard of it because i love paintings and it really takes my stress away, also the entrance fee is free _________________ my first baby..
I have been to a couple of art shows when I was in school. We used to go to the art galleries for school trips. It was really a nice learning experience I got to see many sculptures and paintings by famous artists.
When I was growing up here in South Africa, the best thing I ever saw was a small sketch by Pablo Picasso, of a dead horse. A few years after that I got to London and my aunt took me to a LOT of amazing exhibitions. The first one was Matisse - who I am not a huge fan of but wow, room after room of paintings - it was so amazing. My favourite exhibition ever was a Georgia o'Keeffe retrospective at the Hayward in London. _________________ roar like sushi! o0o0o0o0o0o ...

I assume that art show is simply an exhibition?
Yes, I have been to exhibitions, both permanent (I belive they are called art galleries) and temporary, of well know artists. I also have been to many commercial galleries that sell art at various prices.
Some of my friends (or people I know, let's say) are artists of all kinds, so I have been to the "openings" or "private views" of either individual or group exhibitions when you are given cheap wine, good cheese and dry grapes (I don't really mean sultanas) and are allowed to smooch with the bohemians ... I have not bought much art, as what I like I can't afford and what I can afford I don't much like, but I bought a couple of works by local artists at the last art exhibition that is organised every two years in our village hall (honestly!).

When I was in high school we went to an art museum, at that time I was living in forth worth TX and we went downtown; I can't remember the name of the museum though but yes indeed it was very interesting to see some of the paintings and sculptures from so many artists from all over the USA. _________________ ********_______***********
